GREETINGS!
The Covid 19 pandemic set back the process of achieving our official 501c3 status but we are now 100% in order.
Several key projects were kicked off this year in each of our key program areas:
APPLIED RESEARCH
The RHL Research Foundation supported the development of the Metabolic Matrix – a tool for transforming the food & beverage Industry. The RHLRF provides support for the development of methods paper that will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and also the for the publication of a website dedicated to sharing the metabolic matrix.
The RHL Research Foundation is providing support for the development of a Sugar Matrix that provides both the framework and the data for all sugars that exist.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
The RHL Research Foundation was the lead sponsor of the three-day international conference Catalyzing Science to Action for Transformation and Resilience Across the Lifespan.
Our Online Educational focus has been on supporting the model programs being created by Dr. Uma Pisharody at Swedish Healthcare in Seattle: pRevention, trEatment, and reverSal of dIet- and LIfestyle drivEN diseases in ChildrEn™️
CLINICIAN RESEARCHER FELLOWSHIPS
The Robert H. Lustig Research Foundation has played a key role in the forging of a Scientific Advisory Team (SAT) commissioned to inform and empower the development of best-in-class (nourishing, delicious, affordable, commercially viable) food and beverages that support metabolic well-being. The SAT is comprised of leading experts in the fields of metabolic health and nutrition, medicine, research, food data science, public health education, and consumer advocacy. The efforts of this team, working on behalf of KDD are featured at https://metabolicmatrix.com.
WORKPLACE AND SCHOOL-BASED METABOLIC HEALTH
The RHL Research Foundation is making investments in the use of data science to transform food systems. Several filters have been commissioned to help consumers filter sugar out of the food supply, and also to apply the NOVA food classification system and thereby screen out ultra-processed foods.
Working with technology platform/partner Perfact, development of an online database of all added sugars (and non-nutritive sweeteners). An app and filter will enable consumers, industry, and institutions to filter the entire food supply to screen out sugar-added products, and the scientific and educational community will be provided access to a global database/re-engineering technology.
CALL TO ACTION
Forging of the M+ Alliance – Advancing Metabolic Health and Nutrition. The RHL Research Foundation is a founding member of an alliance of forward-thinking leaders from multiple sectors committed to educating and forging policies, practices, and programs that can be embraced and propagated with strategies that engage multiple sectors: consumer, industry, health, and government. The M+ Alliance aims to bring together institutions and advocates who believe that strong and effective multilateral cooperation based on common principles of sustainable nutrition is essential.
